What does it mean "to be equitable? A man shared this at a training. A mother said to the coach, it is not fair that my son hardly gets to play. The coach responded what is fair, that I let your son play more because he is on the team or the kids who come to every practice and give their all, play more. How is it fair to have everyone be a winner what does it do to the other kids that do give their all to win. This is a great topic to discuss. Thank you for it. In chapter 7 of Davis and Sumara's "Complexity and Education: Inquiries into Learning, Teaching and Research," entitled 'Pragmatic Complexity Research: Conditions of Emergence.' The authors write about specialization, the balancing of internal diversity and internal redundancy: "In complexity terms, equity is not about sameness of opportunity, influence, or expression; it is about freedom to pursue particular interests in the service of group possibility."
